What’s the difference between a dressing gown and a housecoat?
A dressing gown is usually a long, loose robe or wrap that is worn after getting out of bed, particularly on a cold morning, following a bath or at night before bed. It is sometimes called a bathrobe.
A dressing gown is often open at the front with a fabric belt to wrap around the body and tie at the front. Often worn over underwear or nightwear.
A dressing gown tends to be made from fleecy type material to keep you warm and cosy after a bath or on a cold night/morning.
A housecoat is often confused with a dressing gown or bath robe, however although it may look similar, a housecoat is for wearing over your clothes to keep you warm on a cold day.
Like lounge wear, a housecoat is often worn when relaxing during the day, although you can still wear it at night over your nightdress or pyjamas, when you are watching tv or reading a book.
A housecoat sometimes doesn't have a belt and can be fastened at the front with buttons, poppers or zips.
Housecoats often come in different materials and patterns.

Different Dressing Gown Materials
Whether you are looking for fleecy comfort or luxury pure cotton materials, thick velour or a lightweight fabric, we have lots of choice.
Fleecy Dressing Gowns
Many dressing gowns are made from a fleecy material. They are popular as the fleece has insulating and durability properties. Ideal for wearing daily and when the temperature drops! Fleece is woven for warmth and is soft and durable. We have a new bright blue colour for the zig zag collection for Autumn Winter 2023.
Waffle Weave Dressing Gowns
Waffle weave dressing gowns are soft, absorbent and fast drying. These are made from polyester or a combination of polyester and cotton. We have a new green colour for the Waffle Fleece nightwear range for Autumn Winter 2023.
Terry Towelling Dressing Gowns
The terry towelling dressing gowns are soft, absorbent and fast drying. We have a pure cotton towelling gown that is ideal for wearing straight out of the bath and this one comes in white or blue.
Flannel Fleece Dressing Gowns and Housecoats
Flannel fleece is super warm and a heavier material than the waffle or towelling fleece. Again made from polyester material. After a luxurious bath, why not snuggle on the sofa in a sumptuous fleece housecoat to keep you warm all evening or wear it during the day.
Pure Cotton Bath Robes and Dressing Gowns
Cotton dressing gowns feel lovely against your skin. Whilst keeping you warm, you won't overheat in cotton fabric. Ideal for stepping out of a hot bath.
Some cotton robes don't wick moisture away from the body, like the fleecy gowns, unless they are made from a cotton mix. Get the spa-look and feel with a beautiful luxury pure cotton fabric dressing gown made from 100% cotton.
