The Perfect Fitting Bra

We all know that awful feeling of wearing ill fitting bras and wearing the wrong bra size. The digging in the shoulders, the constant pulling up of the bra cups and, let's not forget the back ache which stays with you for days.  The question is, how do you find the perfect fit?

At AmpleBosom.com we are determined to find you your perfect bra, because we know there is one out there for everyone. This is why we offer such a large range of bra sizes, from a  28 to 54 bra band size and A to N bra cup size. No one deserves to be in the wrong bra size or wear ill fitting bras, there are far too many other problems in the world.

Our primary way of finding people the best fitting bra is through a phone call, it's good to talk and our staff have expertise in how to measure and find the perfect fit for you over the phone. Please call our friendly team of bra specialists on 01439 798388 for help and advice.

If phoning isn't your cup of tea we also have pages on our website dedicated to showing you how to measure yourself at home. These pages have guidelines so that once you have measured yourself you can check to see which size you are in different brands.

HOW TO MEASURE bra size

A brief overview of how to measure for a bra:

  1. Start by measuring your under bust whilst wearing a bra using a tape measure. Pull fairly tight above your rib cage and measure in inches.

  2. Once you have measured your under bust, now measure over the fullest part of the bust, by the breast tissue, using the tape measure, again this should be measured in inches.

  3. Now you have your two measurements, the first measurement (under bust) you need to add four or five inches to this in order to find the correct bra band size as an equal number. For example if you measured a 38 you would add four inches to reach a 42 band size, if you were a 39 you would add five inches to reach a 44 band size.

  4. Then you need to take away your under bust measurement (this is including the extra inches you added) from your over bust. This will provide you with your bra cup measurement. Every inch counts as a cup size. For example 0 inches difference will be an A Cup, 1 inch will be a B cup and so on.

  5. You should now have your final measurement and correct bra size to find the right bra! Use this size to buy your bras, please note that this is just a guide, everybody is shaped differently and unfortunately we cannot produce a perfect guide for everyone. At the end of the day, you know which is the right bra for you. Each brand fits differently as some do double cup sizes whereas others don't. So it may take a bit of trial and error to find a bra that fits properly. Don't forget we are only a phone call away if you need some extra advice or a professional bra fitting.

If after measuring, ordering and receiving your bra you still do not feel you have the perfect size, do not fear! Our quick and easy exchange system means that you can continue to find your perfect fit.

WHAT A WELL FITTING BRA LOOKS LIKE

A well fitting and supportive bra will be comfortable but how do you know if the bra is fitted correctly? We have put together a guide to help you find a well fitting bra.

  1. Bra Band – the band should be secure and level all the way round, not riding up at the back. The band should sit snug underneath the breast tissue.
  2. Straps – the straps should run parallel at the back and take the weight from the shoulders. Straps should not dig into the shoulders. Adjust the shoulder straps to ensure they are neither too loose nor too tight. The straps should sit parallel at the back. When trying on a new bra always wriggle the shoulders to ensure the straps do not slip.
  3. Bra Cups – breasts should be comfortably enclosed in the cups. No bulging or gaping at the top or the sides. Always make sure the nipples are centralised in the cup. Put your hand inside the cup and lift and sweep the breasts.
  4. Centre panel - the centre front fitting should be snug to the chest wall with no gaps or digging in.
  5. Underarm - snug fit at the underarm, not too tight and not gaping.
  6. Wires – if underwired the wires should lie flat. You should not be able to feel the wires when you move around and touch your toes. Stretch your arms towards the ceiling. When you bring your arms back down to your sides, the wires should not dig in.
