A good, well-fitting bra should make you feel comfortable and supported and, in some cases, it can even help to relieve physical symptoms such as back ache and shoulder pain, especially if you have larger breasts. However recently we have received phone calls from some ladies who have been wearing bras that are uncomfortable and are causing so much discomfort that they have been in tears.
Here at AmpleBosom, we do everything to make sure out customers have access to bra's that fit properly and are wearable on a daily basis.
An ill fitting bra can make a real difference to how you feel in yourself, and if you're wearing a bra in the wrong size it can cause all kinds of issues such as neck pain, back problems and breast pain. This really should not be the case, and we want to share our advice if your bra is uncomfortable or causing discomfort.
Advice If Your Bra Is Uncomfortable Or Causing Discomfort
Our step by step guide for what to do if your bra is uncomfortable or causing you discomfort or pain from wearing your bra
1) Stop wearing the bra.
First of all, stop wearing the bra that’s causing you discomfort. Try to stick to wearing one of your bras that you do feel comfortable in. If all of your bras are causing problems, then maybe it's time to get a measurement to see if you're wearing the wrong size. After all, the perfect bra for you shouldn't cause you pain and discomfort.
2) Locate the issue / problem area.
Where is the discomfort coming from? Is it the bra straps, band, cups or underwire? Or is it the style of bra or the fabric that’s causing discomfort? Many women find that there are red marks left behind when they take off their bra, which is a signifier that you are wearing the wrong size bra.
Once you’ve identified the problem, you will be able to find an alternative bra that offers a good solution to the issue. The wrong size bra is typically the issue for most women and if the cup size is wrong then this can cause breasts to spill and they wont sit flat in the bra cup.
You may find that some simple adjustments to your bra may help. For example, are your bra straps too tight, or would a bra extender help with the band discomfort? The wrong band size can irritate the skin and cause discomfort.
Check your breasts are sitting comfortably in the cups. Ensure the back/front fastening and straps are adjusted to a comfortable yet supportive fit. Read our blogpost on how to choose a comfortable bra.
3) Make sure you are wearing the correct size bra.
Wearing an incorrect bra size is the most common reason for bras causing pain and discomfort, so we put together a guide to figure out if you are wearing the correct bra size. Over time our bodies change shape and size, and this can impact on the types of bras we need to wear.
There's no shame in going for another bra measurement if you're not sure what size you are anymore, and in the long run it will be much more beneficial for your breast health. Not wearing the correct bra can actually damage the skin health of your breasts, inducing stretch marks. It’s very unlikely you will be able to wear the same style and size of bra throughout your life! If you're not enjoying a structured cup anymore, it may be time for a whole new bra style.
We advise measuring your bra size regularly and our bra fitting guide explains how to check if you have a correct fitting bra as well as lots of advice and tips on common bra fitting issues and problem areas.
